Reinventing Resilience
Author Paul Thallner required a book cover design for his new  work Reinventing Resilience, which looks at rethinking the typical view of business challenges as elements to be overcome and moved on from, and instead to be worked through as a learning opportunity and as a means of building business resilience.
The final cover shows a cropped illustration of his resilience model detailed in the book, with the gradient elements alluding to the flow through the sections of the process. The cover design also aligns with requirements from the publishers on copy for the front. Final copy for the reverse of the design was added by the publishing company's own design team.
Throughout the process, Paul was keen on an illustrative cover, which aligned with the typical business books you would see on the shelves today, while also standing out from the crowd. These are some of the designs initially presented to Paul which were built on to reach the final design.
1984
Penguin publishing needed a new book cover design for the George Orwell classic 1984. As well as reflecting the themes of the book, the client requested the design incorporate a handmade element.
The cover design uses a handmade polygonal mask, monochrome colour palette, simple typography, and redacted copy to reflect the books themes of anonymity, dystopia, and control.
